Getting started
How do I create a room?
Open PickIt, tap Run the room and choose what you’re deciding on. Add your name, pick a face, keep the room name we suggest (or write your own), then tap Open the doors. Your 4-digit code is waiting in the lobby, ready to send to your friends.
How do I join a friend’s room?
Tap Crash a room, type the 4-digit code your host sent you, add your name and pick a face. You’ll land in the lobby with everyone else.
The Start button is greyed out.
Only the host can start, and there has to be at least one other person in the room. Share the code, and Start the chaos lights up the moment a friend joins.
What can we decide on?
- Movies in cinemas: tonight’s showtimes (London only for now).
- Movies & TV to stream: titles on the streaming services you pick.
- Food & restaurants: places near you, or cuisines if you’d rather not share a location.
Once everyone’s in, the host narrows it down with genres or cuisines and the swiping starts.
Can I watch the intro again?
Yes. Tap the settings icon on the home screen, then Replay introduction. How it works is in the same place.
Matches, ties and results
How does PickIt choose the winner?
Everyone swipes through the same cards. Anything the whole room liked is a perfect match. If nothing gets everyone’s vote, PickIt shows the pick most of you liked, with the runners-up underneath.
What happens if we tie?
You get a quick revote on just the tied picks, and the most votes wins. If it’s still a stalemate after the last-chance round, fate steps in and picks one for you.
Nobody matched on anything.
The host can widen the net, switch to cuisines, reshuffle for a fresh deck, or let fate decide.
Troubleshooting
The restaurants aren’t near us.
Restaurant rooms search around the host. When the host picks dine-in spots, PickIt asks for location permission on their phone (guests are never asked). If the host said no, PickIt falls back to a rough area based on their internet connection, which can be a city or two off, especially on mobile data.
To fix it, the host can turn location back on in Settings → PickIt → Location. Or you can swipe on cuisines instead, which needs no location.
PickIt says our group is in different countries.
PickIt uses each person’s rough country, based on their internet connection, to check which streaming services apply. If your group is spread across countries, the host gets a heads-up before starting:
- Streaming: what’s on Netflix in one country might not be in another. You can carry on anyway.
- Restaurants: PickIt suggests swiping on cuisines instead, so everyone can eat near where they are.
- Cinemas: showtimes only cover London for now.
Using a VPN can make PickIt think you’re in a different country.
I entered the wrong code three times and now I can’t join.
After three wrong codes in a row, PickIt pauses joining for 60 seconds. Wait a minute, double-check the digits with your host, then try again.
The app lost connection mid-swipe.
PickIt tries to reconnect on its own, up to three times. If that doesn’t work you’ll see an offline screen with a Try again button. Check your Wi-Fi or mobile data and tap it. The room stays open, so you can also rejoin with the same code.
Someone I don’t know is in my room.
Codes are only 4 digits, so now and then someone types the wrong one and lands in your room. If you’re the host, tap the settings icon in the lobby, then tap their name to remove them. You can also end the room for everyone from the same screen.
Can I keep a room for longer than 24 hours?
Not really, and that’s on purpose. A room deletes itself 24 hours after the last person joined (an empty room goes after a few minutes). Need another round tomorrow? Just open a new room.
Privacy and your data
Do I need an account?
No. There’s no sign-up, email, phone number or password. You type a nickname and pick an emoji, and that’s it.
What happens to my data?
Your nickname, emoji and votes only live inside the room, and the room deletes itself automatically, within 24 hours of the last person joining. The host’s location is only used to find restaurants and is never saved on our server. No ads, no tracking, and nothing is sold. The privacy policy has the full details.
How do I delete my data?
Room data deletes itself, so there’s nothing long-lived on our side to export or delete. The app only keeps a few settings on your phone (like whether you’ve seen the intro), and deleting the app removes them. If you have a specific concern, email us.
Bugs and ideas
The quickest way to report a bug is to shake your phone anywhere in PickIt. That starts an email with your app version, iOS version and phone model already filled in. You write what happened, and nothing gets sent unless you send it.
Or email us directly with:
- Your phone model and its software version (e.g. iPhone 15 Pro, iOS 26)
- What you were doing when it went wrong
- A screenshot or screen recording if you have one
Feature ideas go to the same address. Every “I wish it did…” gets read, and some of them end up in the app.
